As the gaming industry grows and evolves throughout the world, the powerful research of the International Center for Responsible Gaming is driving change and leading the field forward. For over nearly 25 years, we provided independent, peer-reviewed research that helps increase the understanding of gambling disorder and find effective methods of treatment. Our work is impacting public policy, strengthening responsible gaming and improving the health and well-being of the people and communities effected by the continued growth of the industry.
The International Center for Responsible Gaming (ICRG) is the only national organization exclusively devoted to funding research that helps increase understanding of pathological and youth gambling and find effective methods of treatment for the disorder. The ICRG is the American Gaming Association’s (AGA) affiliated charity.
Founded in 1996 as a separate 501(c)3 charitable organization, the ICRG’s mission is to help individuals and families affected by gambling disorders by supporting the finest peer-reviewed, scientific research into pathological and youth gambling; encouraging and developing tools to facilitate the application of new research findings to improve prevention, diagnostic, intervention and treatment strategies; and advancing public education about gambling disorders and responsible gaming.
Under the guidance of a Scientific Advisory Board of independent experts, the ICRG provides long-term funding for innovative, multidisciplinary research at the ICRG Centers of Excellence in Gambling Research. Centers of Excellence are currently based at The University of Chicago and Yale University.
In addition to the ICRG Centers of Excellence program, the ICRG offers a competitive project grants program to support high-quality scientific research on gambling disorders. Project grants offer support for investigators from various disciplines and at all career levels, especially those new to the field. All research grants, both long-term and project-based, are reviewed by independent peer review panels of distinguished scientists in the field to ensure that only the highest quality research is funded.
The ICRG also is actively engaged in public education and awareness activities, such as developing content for the ICRG’s Conference on Gambling and Addiction, developing new science-based resources, and collaborating and coordinating with other institutional partners to develop practical applications for research findings.
